Curracabark will be offering 26 Angus bulls, 24 Hereford bulls, 5 EU, PTIC, 33 month old Angus black composite heifers, 45 EU, un-joined, 22 month heifers that are Angus black composites, black baldies and Herefords.
Both stud and herd bulls will be offered and share many of the same bloodlines.
The entire drop of this year’s stud and herd bulls are run together post weaning and have had to endure patchy seasons, relying on their muscle and ‘doing ability’ quality to get through.
Those making the sale team have earned their position in it by successfully handling the years’ tough conditions.
Curracabark aims to breed cattle with structure, visual muscle and a highly valued ‘doing ability’ that will improve profitability.
Diligent searches for outstanding genetics that are of a similar type to the sale bulls will add to the consistency of performance in these bulls’ progeny.
This year’s bulls are a nice mix of proven and new genetics with Herefords by the successfully breeding Days Columbus G20 and a son, Curracabark K102. Sale bulls Curracabark M148 and M158 are also looking very good.
There are also some bulls by Poll Hereford super sire Allendale Anzac E114 with sons Curracabark M101 and N003 bringing appealing data plus a good looking phenotype.
Angus sires include carcase sires Pathfinder Goldmark G497, Pathfinder Komplete K22 and Musgrave Big Sky.
Big Sky bulls have been the standouts at Wattletop, Glenavon and Weeran in 2017 and 2018 making up to $32,000. All bulls Pestivirus negative, vet checked, 5 in1 and 3 day vaccinated.
The Higgins family have been breeding cattle in the district since the 1880’s with Herefords first introduced in the 1920’s as a wedding present to Herbert Higgins from his parents’ in-law.
Both the open day and sale day in July will be held at Myra sale yards, 2796 Curricabark Rd, Gloucester. The first Angus bulls were used in 1940’s.
The stud and commercial was run by Herbert Higgins from 1950 to 1958 and then John and Jim Higgins from 1958 until 2006. Currently run by Sandy and James Higgins (three generations on) from 2006 to present with 700 females joined.
Since those days Curracabark has earned a reputation for it’s consistency, quality, relevance and profitability in its stock.
Curracabark Hereford stud was started in 1950 with females from CollyCreek, Timor, Bexly, Invernaion, and Ardno. For further inquiries contact James on 65587515 or Sandy on 65587592
