And, a big crowd made its way to the Muswellbrook correctional centre exhibition grounds on Saturday for the annual St Heliers Heavy Horse Field Days.
There, popular breeds such as Clydesdales, Shires, Percherons and Draughts joined forces with other heavy horse classes, while stallholders tempted patrons with arts and crafts, antiques, leather work and memorabilia.
Events included lead, ridden, slide obstacle, ploughing, long reining, log snig, heritage and show horse drawn vehicles, pumpkin snatch, work day challenge and much more.
“We’re very happy with the turnout so far,” president Louise Turner said.
“It’s a great day, weather-wise.”
Following the grand parade, Senior Assistant Superintendent Noel McEachran presented the prestigious Governor’s Pick to John Reedy and his “Four in Hand”.
The action continues on Sunday from 8.30am.
