That’s the advice from Mandy Archibald as the Murrurundi Arts & Crafts Council prepares to host the inaugural Murrurundi Arts & Crafts Open Prize and Exhibition 2018.
The opening night of the maiden event is scheduled to take place at the Murrurundi RSL Hall on Friday, May 25.
But, it’s not too late to submit works either, as long as the artists reside in the following postcodes: 2328, 2329, 2333, 2336, 2337, 2338, 2339 or 2343.
“The aim of the Murrurundi Arts & Crafts Council is to encourage, nurture and promote artistic pursuits in the Murrurundi district,” Mrs Archibald said.
“We decided to create this new prize and exhibition because we wanted to include all the other [artistic] interests in the Upper Hunter – and not just paintings.
“There are such eclectic, clever and imaginative artistic creations in our area that we wanted a way to showcase them all.
“From paintings to sculpture, ceramics to knitting and quilt making, for example; you name it.
“And, now, we have one big open prize.
“There will be a major winner overall of $1000, as well as many highly commended and encouragement awards donated by numerous different sponsors.
“In the past, the Murrurundi Art Prize has always been about paintings.
“But, there is just so much more to art than painting.
“We’ve also changed our name from the Murrurundi Arts Council to the Murrurundi Arts & Crafts Council in recent times, so we can encompass all forms of art.
“We’re having a ‘pop up’ art/craft table for artists to sell their crafts for the duration of the prize, too.”
The exhibition will continue, each weekend, until June 11.
