Dreams is the long-awaited electronic dance union between Johns and his friend Luke Steele, leader of The Sleepy Jackson and Empire Of The Sun. Their debut single No One Defeats Us was released last month and was followed by a visually-rich video.
The clip was shot along a decrepit railway track and factory in Los Angeles. Johns’ fashion style is million miles away from the baggy shorts and band t-shirts he regularly wore in his Frogstomp days.
In No One Defeats Us Johns dons an open mink coat with what appears to be tongues sown into the fabric.
Then there’s his black skirt and pants and a coloured contact lens in one eye that leaves Johns looking like he’s suffering from conjunctivitis. All the while brandishing a baseball bat. Yes, it’s different.
It’s fair to say the reaction from fans has been “mixed” online.
Newcastle fans hoping to catch Dreams will need to head down the M1 in May when the electronic duo make their Australian debut at the Sydney Opera House.
Dreams’ performances on May 29 and 30 will be part of the Vivid Live festival and follows their opening show at Coachella in the US on April 13.
