Main Camp Angus is a name synonymous with quality Angus steers bred by the Brian Brooker who passed away in July last year.
He had selected three steers for this year’s show including the double muscled ‘Stumpy’ who epitomised the carcase attributes Mr Brooker and his family had been breeding on their Upper Hunter property for many years.
Stumpy was recently judged the champion steer of the Upper Hunter Show and with his two stablemates was selected to represent the Angus breed in the Stan Hill competition in Sydney – a rare achievement for one stud to have all three animals in the team.
It is also a great tribute to Mr Brooker, who exhibited steers successfully at the Royal, for many many years.
It has been a tough time for the Brookers and many of their neighbours in the Rouchel district and throughout the Upper Hunter as they have battled one of the worst droughts in living memory.
Water supply has been a big problem but here’s hoping the season is turning and the good news of Stump’s achievements is the start of more good news.
There is no doubt Mr Brooker and his great mate the late Bill McKiernan would both be smiling at this result.
