The Chronicle understands neither Hunter Valley Police District officers nor NSW Ambulance paramedics attended the scene at the Muswellbrook Showground.
However, in response to numerous false claims on social media over the weekend, the Upper Hunter Show Society issued a statement on Wednesday.
“The Upper Hunter Show has been running for 128 years and is an important opportunity to bring our community together in a festive atmosphere to celebrate excellence in agriculture,” a spokesperson said.
“The show has a huge program of horse, cattle, sheep events, pavilion exhibitions, post splitting, campdraft and the ever-popular Wife Carrying Competition.
“The show’s first concern is for the welfare and safety of its patrons.
“We have been in contact with the father and son involved in the incident on the Whizzer ride.
“They have assured us that they are okay and we’ll continue to keep the lines of communication open with them.
“When the incident occurred, the site was immediately shutdown.
“The show is closely monitoring the steps taken by the owner of the ride to help prevent this kind of incident from occurring again.
“The ride is currently awaiting inspection and assessment by WorkSafe engineers.
“The ride was supplied by the Showmens Guild of Australasia and we recommend that anyone with concerns about ride safety contact the guild.
“The Upper Hunter Show welcomes more than 20,000 members of our community each year.
“And, we look forward to putting on another great show for the Upper Hunter region in 2019.”
