While acknowledging the current rainfall was good for the region, last year’s event fell victim to the elements, with Friday’s round washed out.
And, the tournament director does not want to see a repeat of that from March 19 to 23 at the Muswellbrook Golf Club.
“The course is in great nick at the moment – the fairways are lush,” Robinson said.
“So, I’m expecting some good scores to come through.
“But, a few clear days would be welcome.”
Sawtell’s Barry Woods and Helen Wheatley, of Aberdeen, captured the 2017 New South Wales Veteran Golfers Association (NSWVGA) men’s and women’s crowns respectively – and the pair will return to defend their titles.
So, too, will Merriwa’s Merrie Llewelyn, who picked up the 36-hole honours.
“We’re looking at the 100 mark in 2018,” Robinson said.
“We’ll have golfers from all over NSW, as well as Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.
“It would be fantastic to boast a field of 150.
“However, not having a caravan park in the heart of Muswellbrook affects our numbers.
“Even though we’ve got them at Denman and Lake Liddell, people like to stay in the town where they’re playing.
“A lot of the golfers do the ‘circuit’, and go from event to event, so they look forward to this tournament each year.
“It’s a great opportunity to catch up with familiar faces, too, as you make some good friends along the journey.”
The Week of Golf starts on Monday, March 19, with an 18-hole individual stableford, which continues on Tuesday, March 20.
Thursday, March 22, features the NSWVGA competition across all grades, while a 2BBB medley stableford wraps it up on Friday, March 23, followed by the presentation.
“I’d like to thank all those businesses, and organisations, who have thrown their support behind the Week of Golf,” Robinson said.
“We really appreciate their [financial] assistance.”
