To combat the heat the annual Singleton to Nundle motorcycle ride for ovarian cancer is being held on Saturday, March 24, and the final destination will be the Linga Longa Hotel in Gundy.
Now in its eighth year, Gerard Hayward and Amanda Dennis were inspired to organise the fundraiser in memory of his sister – Jennifa Barnett. She passed away in 2010 after battling this difficult to diagnose disease.
Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer, and the sixth most common cause of cancer death affecting women in Australia.
Gerard says despite being hot in 2017 we still had a massive crew of supporters turn up and managed to raise over $7,000. “This is just massive for the Ovarian Cancer foundation as they receive very little government support,” he says. “It’s a great day and a nice easy ride that everyone can manage whether it be beginner or advanced rider. We also had cars follow us up last year so if you don’t have a bike still please come along and follow in your car.”
The cost of the ride is $40 per person which covers the cost of lunch, and a donation. Tickets can be purchased from Happy Grillmores Café on the highway or by calling Amanda on 0400 187 269. Amanda says it would be fantastic to see another great role up this year to help raise awareness and support for Ovarian Cancer.
“We have had such great support in the past and again this year with the generosity of our sponsors – GB Auto’s, Ace Tyres, ProMine, Singleton Electec, Happy Grillmores, AJM Fabrication, Edge Pizza’s and Perram and Toohey”. They are still looking for auction items so if any businesses would like to donate please contact Amanda on 0400 187 269 or at admin@gahayward.com.au
On the day of the ride, participants are asked to assemble at the Happy Grillmores Café carpark on George Street at 7am in preparation for the departure time of 9am. Amanda says from Happy Grillmores they will head to the Linga Longa Hotel at Gundy for a gourmet barbecue lunch, and then, return to the Albion Hotel in Singleton for food, drinks, an auction at 7pm and the raffle will be drawn at 8pm. “The sea of bikes and cars created a spectacular site on the highway last year with over 100 participants,” she says.
