Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen said this work would involve building the road surface, line marking and sign posting.
Toilets, a shade shelter and bins will also be installed.
Work will be carried out from Tuesday, February 13, between 7am to 5pm, excluding Sundays.
It is expected to be completed by May this year, weather permitting.
To ensure the safety of workers and road users, changed traffic conditions will be in place including a reduced 40km/h speed limit and lane closures.
Roads and Maritime Services thanks motorists for their patience while this upgrade is carried out.
