WITH the forecast of extreme temperatures set to soar above 40 degrees this weekend, Upper Hunter Shire swimming pools have extended their opening hours.

The extended opening hours are as follows:
- Merriwa Olympic Pool will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 8pm.
- Murrurundi and District War Memorial Pool will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 8pm.
- Scone Memorial Swimming Pool will be open on Saturday from 6am til 8pm and Sunday from 9am to 8pm.
Upper Hunter Shire mayor Wayne Bedggood is also encouraging residents to be prepared for the extreme weather this weekend.
“Extreme heat can have serious impacts on people’s health,” he said.
“Planning ahead and being prepared for extreme heat is important.
“It is easy to become dehydrated or for your body to overheat.
“Taking a refreshing dip in the local pool is a great way to keep your body temperature down.
“Council is pleased to work with Lifeguarding Australia to provide the opportunity for resident’s to escape the heat this weekend by extending the opening hours of our local pools.”
After this weekend, opening hours will revert back to normal:
- Merriwa Olympic Pool is open on both Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm.
- Murrurundi and District War Memorial Pool is open on both Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 7pm.
- Scone Memorial Swimming Pool is open on Saturday from 7am to 6pm and Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
