Sixteen entrants were split into teams of four and battled it out in a day-long competition of golf, lawn bowls, darts and pool as they vied for the ‘Clubtathlete’ of the year award.
Event organiser Anthony ‘Ando’ Taylor said the competition for “the sports-minded and athletically-impaired” was played in good spirits.
“It was a really good day,” Mr Taylor said.
“Everybody was really into it, and looked to be enjoying themselves.
“We really couldn’t have asked for more to be honest.”
Mr Taylor said the teams consisted of both local and visiting competitors.
“It was great turnout to be honest,” he said.
“People came from all over, Newcastle, Narromine and all over really, which is great to see.”
Mr Taylor said he hoped to bring the event to Murrurundi again in the near future.
“Well, I was always hoping to come back and make it a regular thing,” he said.
“Given how well this event went, I think for sure it should come back and I’m currently looking at February sometime at this stage.”
The competitors began the day at the Murrurundi Golf Club taking part in a modified round of golf.
The second leg of the event took them to Murrurundi Bowling Club for a game of bowls, which Mr Taylor said provided some “interesting” performances.
“I think a few people that turned out for the event just wanted to play golf but were easily won over by the whole event,” he said.
“It provided some interesting performances on the links and the bowling green.”
The competition between the 16 entrants was fierce and resulted in a three way tie at the end of the days play.
After a count-back Greg Lawrence was named the 2017 Murrurundi Clubtathlete of the Year.
