VINERY employee Georgie Cavanough is set to be another terrific representative for the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association (HTBA) after winning the 2018 Irish National Stud Breeders Course Scholarship.

The HTBA received many applications from candidates with excellent resumes and backgrounds in the equine industry.
“The high calibre of aspirants again this year highlights the strong competition for this prestigious scholarship,” Mike Thew said.
“Georgie has gained valuable experience in many aspects of thoroughbred breeding and racing – and boasts a very bright future ahead.
“We wish her every success with the course.
“We are confident that Georgie will be a great ambassador for both the HTBA and Australia.
“The HTBA congratulates all applicants and encourages them to consider applying for the 2019 INS application round.”
Miss Cavanough, the daughter of highly-regarded Scone trainer Brett, joins a long list of HTBA-sponsored graduates to the prestigious INS course.
Most recent ones include Damien Fitton (Arrowfield, 2016) Kate Curran (Vinery, 2015); Emily Star (Holbrook, 2014); William Lee-Warner (Darley, 2013) and Heath Justin (Chatsworth, 2012).
All scholarship recipients return to their studs to carry out the breeding season, building on the knowledge from the INS course and providing another asset to Hunter Valley’s breeding industry with another up-skilled staff member.
The first course took place in the Irish National Stud in 1971 and remains the best-known equine training program to this day.
The aim is to educate young people for a career in the thoroughbred industry.
And, since its inception, graduates have progressed to fulfilling careers in the industry and many have become prominent leaders in thoroughbred breeding throughout the world, racehorse training, bloodstock sales, insurance and the media.
The course covers all aspects of the science and art of horse breeding and racing, together with the ever-expanding areas of the thoroughbred industry such as marketing, human resource and Work Health & Safety.
Students are provided a hands-on experience while they live and work on the stud, gaining a deeper knowledge and understanding of each business area, with lectures held each afternoon.
