CRICKET NSW recently appointed Gary Fisher as the development manager for the newly-aligned Hunter region, which encompasses Maitland, Cessnock, Dungog, Singleton, Muswellbrook, and Upper Hunter Shire LGAs.
The Greater Hunter Region, formerly serviced by Neil McDonald and interim manager Francis Walsh, will now boast a dedicated role to provide a laser-light focus for the people of the Hunter Valley.
Walsh will continue to service Newcastle, Port Stephens and the Lake Macquarie regions as development manager - Newcastle.
These new positions have been created to better service the community and in recognition of the significant cricket population and growth opportunities in the area.
As a development manager, Fisher will be the key contact on the ground for Cricket NSW, responsible for promoting and developing participation at the grassroots level to ensure cricket is Australia’s favourite sport – and a sport for all Australians.
In addition to delivering Cricket NSW programs in both clubs and schools, he’ll also work closely with volunteers to help grow clubs and associations.
Fisher is very well-known in Hunter sporting circles and will bring a wealth of experience to his role and a strong presence for cricket in the region.
Most recently the senior officer premier club development and compliance for Northern NSW Football where he has been for the past six years, he is a highly-respected sports administrator who has an intimate knowledge of clubs, volunteer management and community engagement.
He’s also had a strong involvement in local cricket having coached, volunteered and played at Western Suburbs Cricket Club (Maitland) and is the current president of the organisation.
Cricket NSW development leader – Northern NSW Dave Szumowski said Fisher would play an important role supporting cricket in the Hunter.
“It is vital that Cricket NSW provides the support and leadership to continue to foster grass roots cricket, facilitating cricket participation growth and increasing cricket awareness within the region,” he said.
“Gary is a welcome addition to our Northern NSW team who work closely with clubs, associations, schools and local government, forming a direct link with Cricket NSW to help ensure cricket thrives in the Hunter.”
