The fantastic all-ages and all-weather event is a chance to see the Hawker Hurricane soaring over Scone, and to get up close with historic small planes like the Spitfire V1111, P-51 Mustang, Grummun Avenger, CAC Wirraway or the T-28 Trojan.
As well as iconic WWII aircraft, there will be high-octane acrobatic flying displays by Paul Bennet Airshows skydiving, food stalls, and military aviation memorabilia and merchandise on Sunday, March 25.
Warbirds Over Scone is being staged by Upper Hunter Shire Council in conjunction with Scone Aero Club, Vintage Fighter Restorations and Paul Bennett Airshows.
In 2016, this popular aviation display attracted more than 4000 visitors, and greater numbers are expected in 2018, fuelling plans to bring the event to the Upper Hunter every two years.
Mayor Wayne Bedggood said council was now taking a bigger role in management including underwriting the event costs.
“Council has always provided support to the warbirds events in the past such as preparing the Scone Regional Airport, parking and traffic control, toilets, and other onsite activities,” he said.
“Now, council is taking a bigger role in its organisation.
“Warbirds Over Scone will be another of the fantastic community festivals in the Upper Hunter Shire calendar.”
Upper Hunter tourism and events coordinator Jan Sinclair said that with the event only four months away, potential sponsors and food stall holders should make contact quickly.
“We already have NBN Television signed on as a sponsor and we hope others will follow,” she said.
“I also encourage businesses and tourism operators to consider activities and services they offer, which could tie in with the Warbirds weekend and let us know about them.”
