At a press conference in Sydney on Thursday Mr Baird said he was stepping down from the job after three years as Premier and 10 years in parliament to allow a “refresh” of his government.
But, Mr Johnsen had nothing but praise for the state leader.
“’Mike Baird has demonstrated a strong commitment to rebuilding NSW and setting up our state as the number one state in Australia,” he said.
“His visionary approach, coupled with his abilities in economic management, has seen major improvements to NSW and in delivering front line services for our community.
“I’ve learned a lot from Mike in my short time in Parliament.
“I thank him for showing ongoing leadership in his delivery and commitment to improving opportunities for our citizens on NSW.
“I wish Mike and his family all the very best for their future endeavours.”
