Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW) is an SES awareness day initiative and is set to take place on May 11.
This national event recognises and acknowledges the incredible year-round efforts of all SES volunteers across Australia.
The focus of WOW Day is to encourage the community to show their support in a very simply but highly visible way.
The Singleton community and beyond are encouraged to wear the colour worn by all SES volunteers, orange, as a way to say thank you.
Singleton SES community engagement officer Simone Burrows says everyone is invited to partake in WOW day, and show their support.
“We are encouraging community members to get on board by taking a photo of themselves wearing orange and posting it online with the hash tag #thankyouSES on May 11,” Simone says.
“You can post the photos on social media or upload it directly to the SES website.”
People are also encouraged to change their Facebook cover photos to the SES WOW day banner.
The Singleton SES will have a stall set up at Singleton Square on the day taking photos of those wearing orange.
Paddy the Platypus is also expected to make an appearance in support of our local SES team.
“This day is not a fundraiser, it is simply to show support and give recognition to those who volunteer their time for the SES,” Simone says.
The simple concept of wearing orange on WOW day will show support for SES volunteers across Australia and demonstrate that they are valued by the communities in which they support and keep safe.
