But, despite the officers’ demanding schedule, they were more than happy to welcome the 500 or so extra guests.
During the past month, local radio stations Power-FM and 2NM have asked residents in the region to join their Teddy Bear Patrol.
And, this week general manager Joel Gosper, along with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, a Minion and staff, delivered 500 soft toys to the LAC in William Street.
“We came up with the initiative because we know teddy bears calm kids down,” he said.
“So, when emergency service personnel attend a situation where a child is distressed, they will be able to hand over one of the toys.
“People from throughout the Upper Hunter – from Murrurundi to Merriwa, Scone to Muswellbrook, Singleton to Denman – donated the items.
“It’s been such a success; we’ll do it again next year.
“Now, the toys will be bagged up and given to police, paramedics, firemen, RFS crews, hospital staff and not-for-profit community organisations.
“So, today is their induction day before they start their duties,” he added with a laugh.
Mr Gosper said he was overwhelmed by the outcome.
“We were hoping for about 200 soft toys, however it reached more than 500,” he said.
“We’re very happy with the response – it certainly exceeded our expectations.
“We’d like to thank everyone for their generosity.
“It’s a great cause with a broad appeal.
“We’ll kick it all off again in April 2017.”
