Now, local residents can do the same thing at the Op Shop Fashions on the Field race meeting at Muswellbrook on Saturday.
To benefit Cancer Council NSW, the day boasts kids’ activities, including a massive water slide between noon and 4pm, an acoustic set by Olivia van den Heuval and lots more.
“The Muswellbrook Race Club started the initiative last year,” Hunter community relations coordinator Pausha Prigent said.
“And, we’re hoping to build on it in 2016 – and get a lot more families there.
“It’s planned as a fun race day; and very affordable so people can support it.”
Ms Prigent said the Op Shop Fashions on the Field would cater for five categories: ladies, gents, fancy dress, teens (13-17 years) and children (0-12 years).
“We’ve got some awesome prizes,” she said.
“All items of clothing (including shoes, hat and accessories) must be bought through a charitable shop.
“And, receipts will be needed for proof of purchase.
“Lifeline, Vinnies and Rummage in Muswellbrook are supporting the event, while there are a couple of stores in Singleton getting behind it, too.
“So, if you need some help, pop in to any one of those outlets.”
The entry fee, for the op shop fashion competition, is $10 (ladies, gents, fancy dress), $5 (teens) and free for children.
Gates open from noon on Saturday, with the first race starting at 1.33pm.
