The 104 year old golf club recently received the grant from the Coal & Allied Community Development Fund in support of a feasibility study that will assist with pursuing development approval for an upgrade of the club’s grounds and facilities.
The study will examine the viability and detailed design of improvements to the golf course grounds and clubhouse, including a café and dining room as well as the construction of a new squash court facility.
Muswellbrook Golf Club president Garry Johnson said “We are excited to receive this grant from Coal & Allied as it allows us to progress our goal of turning the Muswellbrook Golf Club into a first class sporting and social hub for our community.
“An upgrade to the club has the potential to bring significant social and economic benefits to the region and we are pleased Coal & Allied has helped us take a step towards sustaining this long-term community asset.”
Project Director John Flood said: “The Muswellbrook Golf Club is the lungs of the community and a gathering place for its 1200 golf members and 500 social members.
“This feasibility study will allow the community to see what the club can become as a tourist attraction and sporting and social hub for the region.
“The study is one of the mandatory steps we need to take to provide the costing and detailed design specifications for development approvals and building applications. The next important step is securing funding for the works.”
Coal & Allied Community Relations Specialist Travis Bates said “Coal & Allied is pleased to support the Muswellbrook Golf Club as they take an important step towards creating a sustainable community asset for the Hunter Valley.
“The Muswellbrook Golf Course has provided social and economic benefits to the region for more than a century and we look forward to seeing it enjoy a strong future.”
