A Kiama man has been refused bail after he led police on a half-hour chase through the Illawarra’s southern suburbs early on Saturday morning.

He will front Port Kembla court again on Monday after police allegedly found a machete, knife and drugs in the car.
Police allegedly clocked the 27-year-old driving a Toyota Camry sedan at 107kmh in a 60 zone on the Princes Highway at Albion Park just after midnight.
He failed to stop and a pursuit to south to Kiama ensued, with the man crossing onto the wrong side of the road several times.
Lake Illawarra police, highway patrol officers and the Polair helicopter were involved in the chase, which lasted until about 12.40am.
Police eventually used road spikes at Warrawong, before the man crashed off the road and into the bushes at Boronia Road, Windang.
He attempted to to flee, but was arrested a short time later.
He was taken to Lake Illawarra police station, before being taken to Shellharbour Hospital to be treated for head injuries sustained in the crash and given mandatory blood and urine tests.
Lake Illawarra officers searched the man’s car, where they allegedly seized a machete and knife, as well as illicit drugs and scales.
The man has been charged with seven offences including leading police on a pursuit, driving a motor vehicle during disqualification, driving recklessly, possessing prohibited drugs, and having custody of knife in a public place.
He was refused bail at Wollongong on Saturday morning and will appear at Port Kembla Local Court on Monday.
