Singleton Council is inviting residents to get into nature and grow for National Tree Day on Sunday.
The planting will take place at Nowlan Bushland Park with activities starting at 9am.
A free barbecue will held at noon for those involved.
To get to the site by car, residents can park near the play equipment and walk along the cycleway to meet council officers for a great family day out.
Singleton mayor John Martin said National Tree Day was an opportunity for the community to get outside and connect with nature.
“Planting trees provides more than just environmental and aesthetic value,” he said.
“The pay-offs include improved stormwater management and many health benefits such as improved air quality and the promotion of physical activity.
“This year’s National Tree Day theme is Get into Nature and Grow and we want to encourage people to green up their indoor and outdoor environments.
“This is a great opportunity for the Singleton community to connect with nature and give back to their environment.”
Last year, more than 200 local children participated in National Tree Day for schools and more than 50 Scouts, Guides, Tidy Town group members and community members planted about 1500 trees in Nowlan Park.
IN the Muswellbrook Shire, Denman residents can pick up their trees from Memorial Hall in Ogilvie Street while those in Muswellbrook can collect their tree from Lion’s Park, on the corner of Brook and Scott streets.
At the Muswellbrook site, council staff will be asking residents for feedback on plans to create a community garden in town.
There will be a free barbecue run by local scout groups at each give-away location beginning at 9am.
Residents are asked to bring proof of their address to collect their trees.
