Scone Junior Rugby Union players were strong in all areas of the field, showing opposing sides that Scone never backs down from a challenge.
The under-14s again joined forces with Coonabarabran to become the “Scoonas”.
Their first game was a tight affair against Narrabri with Scone going down by only one point.
Tully O’Regan worked well off the top of the lineout, while Marcus Collins played strongly at hooker.
Jeremy Collins showed his versatility slotting and Conor Edwards had his first game back from injury, putting some hard hits on the opposition.
In the second game against Armidale, the boys never gave up however couldn’t grasp the win.
The Scone under-10s played their best football of the season against the strongest sides in the zone.
Scone Blue started the day with a strong win against Gunnedah, backed up by another victory over Moree.
In the third match they went down narrowly to Narrabri.
Scone Gold had a similar day starting with a win, drawing with Armidale and then going down to Narrabri.
“The coaches couldn’t be happier with the boys’ performances,” coach Warren Park said.
“Everyone seems to be gaining confidence which will add to a great end of season.”
Eleven Scone under-8s formed Scone 1.
During warm up, the team succumbed to a green ant attack with many fallen players, however this fired them up for a victory over Armidale in their first game, and another win over Gunnedah.
Game three was a hard-fought match against Narrabri and, despite some amazing defence, the boys went down by a narrow margin.
“Every boy in this team gave 100 per cent in all games and they are all really showing improvement,” coach Mark Brooker said.
“Sullivan Brooker, Blake Grimes and Hamish McRae showed some real skill in the ruck, disappearing in and coming out with the ball.
“Lochie Hails, Rourke Sharpe, Harry Faulkner and Callan Winter provided the pace.
“Alex Bishop and Ben Officer showed some excellent cleaning out skills.
“J Man, Henry Hubbard and Hunter Wild got low in the tackles and stopped them in their tracks.”
The Scone Yellow under-8 team started the day against Quirindi in what was a sluggish affair in the first half.
The Scone boys woke up at the break and came away with a comfortable victory.
“Some good work in tight by our workhorses Max Patterson, Daniel Crowther and Will Crompton gave Charlie Mitchell, Harry Warner and Cooper Wilson some space to make some great runs,” coach Angus Patterson said.
Game two was against Gunnedah, and the Scone boys had well and truly switched on with some magical play leading to some great tries.
The third and final match against Narrabri was the game of the day.
The first half was close, however Scone took the lead in the second period with some great defence.
“I must say our new signing Will Crompton is moulding into one of the great running props ever produced by the junior Brumbies,” Patterson said.
Sixteen under-6s took the field full of energy and enthusiasm.
The boys showed their endurance, in what was the longest skills session this season.
Despite a few green ant bites, the boys pushed on and scored some amazing tries during the games.
The under-6 squad is definitely producing some strong and dedicated players for the coming years.
The players have a few weeks off before the Scone Gala Day on July 20 at Bill Rose Sports Complex.
