The role 

Following our continued project success and strategic market growth, our national Transport Planning & Advisory team is embarking on a new chapter of expansion by adding key people to our team in several areas. Therefore, we have an exciting opportunity for high performing Transport Modellers, Traffic Engineers, Transport Planners and Freight Planners to work closely with our other specialists in providing professional transport modelling, planning and analytics services and client-centred advice. We have positions available in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne

SMEC have has an established reputation in the transport & infrastructure sector and our Transport, Planning & Advisory business continues to grow with talented people delivering critical projects. You will support the delivery of our core businesses in transport planning, transport modelling and traffic engineering

 Transport Modeller: 

  • 5+ years’ professional industry experience with transport modelling 
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science or Mathematics or well-established career in the relevant transport industry 
  • National or international practical experience in transport modelling using Vissim, Visum, Aimsun, EMME, CUBE or equivalent (at least two software programs)
  • Able to communicate complex modelling concepts and ideas to peers, stakeholders and clients in a written format and verbally
  • Able to work in a team to develop pursuit strategies for future modelling and analytics opportunities and projects
  • Experience with the provision of dashboards which are constructed on large data sets and which demonstrate data trends and convey a concise story

Traffic Engineer:

  • 10+ years’ professional industry experience with traffic engineering 
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science or Mathematics or well-established career in the relevant transport industry 
  • Ability to with collaborate with appropriate team members, contributors and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and co-ordination of project deliverables
  • Experience in traffic engineering and road safety in a relevant setting (eg. Local/State government or agencies

Transport Planner:

  • 10+ years professional experience in transport engineering and planning
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Planning or other relevant field
  • Experience delivering technical projects within a consultancy environment
  • Ability to advise on concept designs of intersections and highways based on experience of traffic behaviours
  • Experience with the provision of dashboards which are constructed on large data sets and which demonstrate data trends and convey a concise story

Freight Planner:

  • 5+ years’ professional experience in master plans for freight infrastructure / freight planning projects or Rail infrastructure coordination
  • A degree in Engineering, Transport, Logistics or equivalent in a related subject
  • Proven experience in developing models for capacity and operation analysis for freight road and rail transport.
  • Familiar with intermodal terminal planning tools / applications and GIS software, experience with simulation software (FlexSim, Arena or similar) would be advantageous
  • Experience of collaborative working in teams and with other disciplines
