But, on Saturday, they’ll all converge on the Denman Recreation Ground for the third instalment of the Denman Pig Races.
And, it’s for a good cause.
The popular event is raising much-needed funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS).
“Last year was a fantastic success – and we amassed $20,000,” WRHS Denman Support Group secretary Merry Freeman said.
“We then handed more than $60,000 (over the 12-month period) to the service, which is a massive effort from the Denman and district community.
“I know the locals are excited by the upcoming event.
“We had about 800 people for the inaugural day (2015) and the crowd rose to 1100 in 2016.
“I’d love to see 2000 come through the gates this weekend.
“Hopefully, the weather gods will smile down on us.”
The concept of the pig races originated from a trip by the Freemans to the South Coast a few years ago.
“Paul and I saw a similar thing at Tathra and thought it would be great for Denman,” Mrs Freeman said.
“And, everyone’s embraced the idea.
“Australian Thoroughbred Racing Pigs will take centre stage, with the first race starting at noon.
“They are from Warwick, in Queensland, and bred by Kevin Kiley, who doubles as the race caller.
“He does a fantastic job and provides plenty of atmosphere.
“Big thanks to our major sponsor Lions Club, as well as Graham’s Farm Maintenance, Denman Hotel, Hollydene, Regional Australia Bank, Sowter Transport, Gavin Scott, Denman Dapkos, Dalara Pastoral, St Joseph’s Denman, JTS Realty, Steven and Tracy Ward, Pukara Estate, Bengalla, Brett Lever and Brigit Smith, Coolmore, Denman Bowling Club, Spur Hill, Two Rivers Wines and Darley.”
Even though the main act is the pig races, there will be other attractions such as market stalls, free rides for the children including laser tag, jumping castle and tea cup ride, classic and vintage car display, plenty of food and drinks with a bar available.
Gates open from 10am.
The cost is $10 per head, while those under the age of 18 will pay an entry fee of $5.
