Comedic motorcycle stuntman Epic Darren heads a cavalcade of new attractions on the Saturday, which also includes professional lawn-mowing racing, bushwhackers challenge.
These Saturday events complement traditional show attractions including cattle, sheep and chicken displays, young farmers events, pro chainsaw races, show rides and food, capped off with fireworks and live entertainment courtesy of the Wize Guyz.
Bookending the Saturday will be a host of horse events on the Friday and Sunday, including the Australian Stock Horse Challenge with junior, juvenile and open events on the Friday as well as a full ring program on the Sunday with show jumping and heavy horse events.
“There’s something for everyone,” entertainment coordinator Leo Collins said.
“Epic Darren is a YouTube sensation – the greatest stuntman ever, in his own mind – and does some funny stuff on his minibike.
“He will be performing three times throughout Saturday.
“The pro lawn mower racers are a mower militia from Macksville who should really rev things up – no blades but plenty of horsepower.”
The Bushwhackers Challenge is a variation on the North Queensland "Ringers Rally”. Competitors start off in a swag and have to race through a number of ‘challenges’ in a format that’s a bit like the day in the life of a farmer.
“They start in a swag, jump out and put the boots and hat on, have breakfast, roll a bale of hay, do some fencing and then ride a six metre greasy pole home – all the while racing the clock.”
Leo said these new initiatives will complement the traditional show rides, stud cattle, sheep and wool displays.
“The Fat Cattle event sponsored by Woolworth is ever popular, along with the dog high-jumping.
“The sheep guys have moved into new sheds this year, and the old ones have been converted for the chickens, so there’s an expanded display there with big entries still coming in.
“We’ll also have the log splitting with chainsaws, with teams of pros competing through the day with finals starting in various events around 4pm.
“Other great events include the kids lolly scatter and kids whip-cracking event.”
Leo said staff and council had the showground looking a picture and a predicted shower midweek would be icing on the cake.
Gates open 8.30am daily with a two-day pass $30 a family; a family one-day pass $20; or $10 for adults and $5 per child.
