The landmark local business has a  new dealer principal and is undergoing a period of unprecedented expansion.

David Tompkins has moved to the area from Sydney to oversee the expansion   and is looking forward to the challenges ahead.

David has 19 years automotive sales experience in Sydney at a family owned and operated dealership and  chose Muswellbrook  due to the location, lifestyle and the  brand credibility of local ownership.

“The DNA of the business in Muswellbrook goes way back,”  said David, who took over the running of the operation from Graham Searley on July 1. 

“Graham ran the business for 14 years and we intend to continue looking after the local community by ensuring their Holden’s, Mitsubishi’s and Hyundai’s are maintained in tip top condition.”

The current sites at 116 Bridge Street and 8 Sydney Street will be complemented by a new site currently under construction at 15-17 Rutherford Road, Muswellbrook and due open in December. 

David is keen to get the word out  about what these changes will mean.

“It is an exciting time as we take on a new supplier in Hyundai and continue the growth of Mitsubishi whilst retaining our Holden history, all in a very new development,” David said.

“The complexities of manufacturer requirements for location specifications has led to confusion about the services provided to Muswellbrook, Scone and other town centres in the Upper Hunter.

“No longer will vehicle owners be required to travel out of the area for vehicle servicing, as our technicians are all trained by Holden, Mitsubishi and Hyundai.”

The new dealership will be conveniently located next to Muswellbrook Fair, which includes Coles, Aldi and Harvey Norman. 

In the meantime, Holden, Mitsubishi and Hyundai owners can  receive the same high level of customer service from the main site in Bridge Street. 

“The team at Upper Hunter Automotive are well versed in providing outstanding assistance,” David said.

This is not the first time David and  wife Virginia have ventured to the country.

David served with the Army in Wagga Wagga and Singleton, while Virginia  is a Gundagai gal.

“We love the country and look forward to settling in and getting involved with the local community,” David said. “Virginia already volunteers at Vinnies in Muswellbrook and the Food Hamper in Scone.”
