“What a wonderful way to start the holidays; we are so grateful,” she said.
“The temperatures were the lowest of the season as we started the set up at the showground at 5.30 in the morning.
“Feet frozen, hands aching was not enough to turn our wonderful volunteers from their mission of making 2017 the best St Joseph’s Junior Campdraft and Fete to date.
“As the sun rose, the first competitors were on their horses ready to begin the competition.
“The action in the ring and camp did not stop all day.
“More and more spectators took time this year to witness the riding skills of so many junior riders from all over the state.
“The canteen churned out hundreds of cappuccinos, steak and sausage sandwiches.
“There was no disappointment where the cakes are concerned either.
“Cakes to die for were donated by very clever cooks.
“Visiting baristas joined forces to demonstrate fabulous skills.”
Mrs Whale said the fete came alive with market stalls, novelty events for kids and even some for the adults.
“The petting zoo organised by the Stage 3 students was a great success,” she explained.
“The ‘Kiss the Pig’ competition was a hit as the brave Miss Reibel accepted the challenge to pucker up.
“The squeals of delight from pig and kids alike were priceless.
“This event could not be a success without the enormous effort from the parents on the day, the volunteers who worked tirelessly beforehand to organise it and the many community and other sponsors who gave their financial support.”
Mrs Whale said the new activities were a hit, too.
“The High Tea was an experience not to be missed,” she admitted.
“What a genuine treat to share such fine dining at the Merriwa Showground.
“The sheep weight guessing competition was very popular with farmers and townies alike.
“The kids also loved the plaster table – so, put your thinking caps on now for next time.
“The funds raised in 2017 are going towards the provision of STEM education, including coding programs at the school that will enable all students to learn to use computers in an exciting way that will better prepare them for the future they are facing.
“Stay tuned for more reports on our progress as the program unfolds.”
