The Muswellbrook off-road racer heads into the event on Saturday and Sunday, which doubles as the third round of the NSW Championships, in exceptional form.
And, he’s keen to keep it that way on “home turf”.
“I’m leading the sportsmen buggy [championships] by three points,” Webster said.
“I finished in first place, and ninth overall, in the season opener at Colo.
“Then I backed it up with a third (and 12th outright) at Dondingalong, near Kempsey, in the second round, despite a few dramas with the steering.
“So, the Milbrodale Mountain Classic is a big event for me.
“To tell you the truth, it’s quite the battle.
“It’s a testing circuit, which boasts just about everything.
“It is also a long race – the last heat on Sunday is six 22-kilometre laps.
“Lucky I know the area pretty well, so that definitely helps.”
Despite the challenges ahead of him, Webster is not over-awed after a lifetime in the sport.
“I’ve been around the off-road scene nearly 25 years,” he admitted.
“Mum (Jenny) and dad (Len) did it.
“Then my father retired.
“Now, I’m keeping the family legacy alive.
“But, it would be nice to have a couple of sponsors on board.”
Another strong performance at the Milbrodale Mountain Classic could enhance those benefactor prospects.
“I’ve got a reliable vehicle, even though you’re thrown curve balls all the time,” he said.
“However, I’m confident in my ability and that of the car.
“If everything holds together this weekend, we’ll do well.
“Then I’m in a good position for the final four rounds of the championships.”
The Hedweld Milbrodale Mountain Classic, hosted just 20km from Singleton, has been conducted in the region for more than three decades.
Not only is it one of the most prestigious events on the NSW off-road racing calendar, it will also incorporate round one of the Premier NSW Long Course Championships and the second leg of the East Coast Tri Challenge in 2017.
