The young golfer, who is now based on the Gold Coast, made it through the round of 64 with a 4&3 triumph over Germany’s Michael Hirmer.
Perry, who played at The Vintage until January, shot four-under in the stroke section with scores of 68 and 70 to progress straight into the second round.
“It was a good start to the match-play, of the British Am, thanks to a 4/3 win,” he said.
Perry, who made the round of 16 last year, also accounted for France’s Frederic Lacroix.
“It was a long but positive day,” he said on Facebook.
“Twelve hours after teeing off this morning, I claimed my match 1 up [over Lacriox].
“I then won my afternoon clash on the 19th [against American Hayden Springer] after being three down with five to go.
“I’m now looking forward to the quarter-finals.”
He’ll next face Norway’s Jarle Kaldestad Volden for a place in the semis.
