Mr Johnsen said the NSW Government’s Investing in Women grants program is a fantastic way to find new, local initiatives that invest in education, leadership and financial security for women across the state.

“Local organisations in the Upper Hunter electorate will have the opportunity to showcase new approaches to empower local women and provide them with economic opportunities across the state,” Mr Johnsen said.

“I strongly encourage our local organisations to apply for grants that are committed to providing economic opportunities for women across NSW.

“These include young women, aboriginal women, older women, women living with disabilities, women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, or women living and/or working in regional areas,” Mr Johnsen said.

The program provides funding for organisations to develop and implement projects that support the economic empowerment and leadership of women in NSW.

These apply to three areas:

- Work and financial security

- Education and learning

- Leadership

Mr Johnsen said the NSW Government is committed to supporting women in otherwise male-dominated sectors, careers and trades; encouraging more women into leadership roles and providing leadership pathways for young women.

“As a Member of the Government, I take great pride in the fact that since 2012, Investing in Women grants have supported projects that enhance women’s financial security and promoted female entrepreneurism,” Mr Johnsen concluded.

Grants of up to $25,000 per project are available to organisations such as local councils, employers, industry bodies, training organisations, and non-government organisations.

A total of $200,000 is available in 2017.
