Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen said the main aim of the initiative was to increase regular and on-going participation opportunities in sport and active recreation in NSW.
“Funding has been provided for a variety of needs including building upgrades, new equipment purchases and administrative costs for these clubs throughout the electorate,” he explained.
The sporting groups benefitting from the funding in the Upper Hunter are: Aberdeen Senior and Little Athletics Centre Inc ($12,000), Howe Park Tennis Club ($2400), Merriwa Swimming Club Inc ($4577), Muswellbrook Ladies Mixed and Junior Touch Association ($3000), Muswellbrook Little Athletics Centre Inc ($3500), Quirindi Sporting Clay Target Club ($9756), Scone Gymnastics Club ($3023), Singleton Amateur Swimming Club Inc ($5000) and Singleton Australian Football Club Inc ($5000).
“I was delighted to visit most of the clubs to congratulate them in person, and to present them with confirmation of their funding,” Mr Johnsen said.
“Sport is a huge part of our local way of life, and the Nationals in government recognise how important it is to the Upper Hunter electorate communities, for both social and health reasons.
“The NSW Government is committed to delivering the best infrastructure to the people of NSW and I look forward to seeing the benefits of this upgrade for our local communities.”
