Waters, representing Muswellbrook Golf Club, and former Aberdeen junior Perry (Vintage Golf Club) took part in two stages of the tournament earlier this week – 36-hole stroke at Peninsula (par 72) and Yarra Yarra (par 70).
Both links are prestigious sand belt courses in Melbourne.
And, the youngsters finished even par after two rounds.
Waters fired a two-under 70 and 72 while Perry shot a four-under 68 and 74 in difficult Melbourne weather, especially in the second day.
The pair registered equal seventh after the opening stage.
They now move onto the knockout matchplay section to decide the champion from the first 64 players to qualify.
Round one is played on Thursday, January 19, with rounds two and three on Friday, January 20.
The final 36 holes will take place on Sunday, January 22.
