Residents can drop off recyclables seven days a week at Scone Waste Depot on Noblet Road.
Paper, glass and plastics recycling bins are located near the weighbridge.
Residents are encouraged to make use of the recycling facilities at the Waste Depot, which is open week days 8am to 5pm and weekends 9am to 5pm.
Sorting and separating rubbish and recyclables is good for the environment and saves money by reducing waste fees.
An audit of Upper Hunter Shire waste in 2016 found one in seven recycling bins is contaminated with non-recyclable material.
Recyclable:
· newspapers, paper, magazines
· cardboard
· glass bottles and jars
· plastic containers, such as from soft drinks, milk, ice-cream, margarine and yoghurt
· aluminium, such as soft drink cans and foil trays
· steel cans
Not recyclable:
· plastic wrap
· shredded paper (this can go in your garden organics bin)
· clothes
· toys
· furniture
· car parts
· sharps (needles and/or syringes)
· foam rubber
· nappies (even if there is a recycling symbol on the box)
· white goods eg. toasters
The Susan Street depot bins have been removed because of the high rate of non-recyclables waste dumping.
Dumping or littering can incur significant penalties and on the spot penalty notices.
To report incidents of dumping phone the Environmental Hotline on 131 555 or for smaller incidents, phone Council on 6540 1100.
