SINGLETON’S Mikayla Weir rode her first winner for Gosford trainer Greg Mcfarlane when the eight- year-old Earstheking captured the Godolphin Benchmark 60 (1280m), a heat of the Rising Star Series for apprentices, at Muswellbrook on Thursday.

The victory catapulted Weir to third place in the series on 14 points, four behind leader Nyssa Burrells who rode Champawi, which finished second last, beaten five and a half lengths.
“Mr Mcfarlane has been giving me some rides lately and it is good to ride a winner for him,” she said.
“There was good pace on in front and that suited my horse.”
Weir settled the horse off the pace then hit the lead in the straight to win by a length from the Pat Farrell-trained Flaming Commodity (Jodi Worley).
Mcfarlane was not surpised by the win.
“He was unlucky when sixth at Gosford at his last run and the drop back in class suited him,” he said.
