Senior Constable Tanya Williams, Senior Constable Steffen Durie and Senior Constable Mark Wilson received Northern Region Commendations from Northern Region Acting Assistant Commissioner Peter Thurtell, while Hunter Valley LAC Acting Superintendent Guy Guiana handed out LAC Commendations to Senior Constable Robert Biles and Senior Constable Bradley Williams.
Senior Constable Williams’ bravery and professionalism were recognised following an incident at the Parklands Motel, Rix’s Creek, on October 12, 2014.
“Police were met by approximately 20 people arguing and yelling at the front of the premises,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Thurtell said.
“Throughout the incident, Senior Constable Williams displayed courage and diligence when dealing with a hostile and violent crowd, ultimately effecting the arrest of the persons involved.”
Senior Constables Durie and Wilson were lauded for their deeds during a siege situation on January 3, 2016.
“Senior Constable Durie provided support and cover for a significant time while Senior Constable Wilson communicated with the person of interest (POI), who was armed and unpredictable,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Thurtell said.
“Extreme professionalism and patience was displayed at a high risk incident involving firearms and a volatile POI.
“Senior Constable Durie is recognised for excellent policing, which resulted in a peaceful outcome and the safe rescue of the other occupants of the home.
“Senior Constable Wilson remained calm in a highly stressful incident involving a person armed with high-powered firearms and who was in a volatile state of mind.
“He ensured the safety of other occupants of the home who were present during the incident.
“His excellent use of communication resulted in a peaceful outcome – and is worthy of recognition.”
Senior Constables Biles and Williams received their LAC Commendations after attending a fatality near Bayswater Creek on September 10, 2014.
“On arrival to a motor vehicle accident at Ravensworth, and in conjunction with other police, both officers administered CPR to one of the drivers in adverse conditions until paramedics arrived,” Acting Superintendent Guiana said.
“It was a commendable effort.”
