Le Marquand, who has appeared in Kill Me Three Times, Vertical Limit, A Few Best Men and Beneath Hill 60, as well as television series Underbelly and Rake, portrays a disgraced sports star and gambling addict who attempts to turn his life around with the support of his number one fan.
But, on Friday, September 2, he and Davies will meet with residents and take part in a “question and answer” session at the local movie complex.
Broke was funded through crowd funding platform Indiegogo and organisations including the NRL Welfare and Education Division, Men of League and more.
The film is definitely a reflection of life imitating art, with many young sports men and women able to learn from the movie’s messages.
Majestic Cinemas Singleton manager Rhiannon Manning is excited to host such a special presentation of an Australian picture.
“We’re always looking at offering a diverse content range,” she said.
“So, we are really happy that the director and actor see the strong sporting community in our town – and are making the effort of coming to our regional cinema to talk about the film.
“Broke will strike a chord with a lot of people.
“An ageing rail worker, Cec, finds his former footy hero Ben ‘BK’ Kelly passed out late one evening and decides to take him in.
“Through the love and support of Cec and his daughter, BK finally finds the courage off the field to tackle his demons head-on and ultimately win back the respect of the community he so deeply let down.”
Tickets for the event, which starts at 7pm, are on sale now.
