The organisation, which boasts just 30 members, will host the 2016 AARCMCC 1/5 Scale Off Road Australian Championships at its Liddell circuit, on the old New England Highway between Muswellbrook and Singleton, from October 13 to 16.

And, if you’ve never watched remote control racing before, you’re in for a real treat, according to UHROC president Jake Herbert.

“It’s a terrific sport,” he said.

“Some of the cars hit speeds in excess of 70km/p/h.

“We’re capped at 120 drivers for this upcoming event.

“But, already, we’ve received interest from Europe, the United States and New Zealand.

“Spectators are welcome; and entry is free.

“There’ll also be a canteen operational, with cold drinks, a barbecue, sandwiches and snacks.” 

Mr Herbert admitted it was a proud achievement in UHROC’s history.

“We’re only a small club,” he said.

“We have guys from Singleton, Muswellbrook, Maitland, Newcastle and Tamworth in our ranks.

“However, it’s a big honour to have the nationals on our home track.

“In fact, it is the first time the AARCMCC 1/5 Scale Off Road Australian Championships will be held outside a metropolitan area.

“We had the state titles here in 2015.

“And, because the club did so well and impressed everyone on that occasion, we’ve now picked up the nationals.

“So, we have to thank Aussie Hobbies, Ramac Electrical, Radical Hobbies, Brendhan Wade Plumbing, MVS Engineering, MIP, Toyriffic, Kennards Hire and Jones Excavation for coming on board as sponsors.”

Four classes – two-wheel outlaw, two-wheel EFRA, four-wheel outlaw and four-wheel AARCMCC – will be contested at the AARCMCC 1/5 Scale Off Road Australian Championships, with practice sessions from Thursday (October 13).

Friday (October 14) kicks off the start of the qualifying rounds, which continue on Saturday (October 15).

The action will then heat up on the Sunday (October 16) with the finals.    

Mr Herbert, himself, is keen to defend his national title.

“I’m currently the NSW and Australian champion,” he said.

“So, I’m, hoping the home track advantage will hold me in good stead.”
