On August 6, Singleton Council will host an Active Doggie Day to help owners with all things related to their furry friends.
One of the features of the event will be an agility and training demonstration by dog trainer Vicki Conroy, to help explain the meaning behind a dog’s body language.
People can also receive advice and education about caring for man’s best friend.
Services available at the event include free dental checks, and diet and exercise advice from Singleton Veterinary Hospital and Heights Pet Hospital.
A range of stalls will add to the fun, including face painting with Bunnings, Hunter Animal Rescue, Newcastle Dog Rescue and Singleton Books Etc.
And, for the competitive dogs, there will be doggie races and a best-dressed dog competition.
If your dog has a special talent, there are also prizes available for the best trick.
The event will be part of Local Government Week 2016 celebrations in Singleton.
The four-legged fun will be from 10am to 1pm at Merricks Fire Brigade off-leash dog park, Darlington Road, Dunolly.
“The community really got involved with the event last year and we are looking forwarding to raising more awareness for responsible pet ownership again this year,” Singleton Council’s acting director of Planning and Infrastructure Group Salena Avard said.
“Rangers from Singleton Council will be present on the day to provide an opportunity for you to check your dog’s microchip and update information.
“All dogs and cats should be lifetime registered by the time they are six months of age and this can be done at any Council in NSW.
“It’s also important that owners update their details when they move, or when a loved family pet passes away, so we can maintain an accurate record of pets in our area.”
Due to the number of dogs anticipated to attend on the day, owners will be required to have their dogs on a lead during the event.
