But, that isn’t the reason Muswellbrook South Public School students and teachers will be wearing them this week.
On Wednesday, June 22, the school will be raising money and awareness for the Mark Hughes Foundation’s Beanie for Brain Cancer Week.
Teacher Chloe Reeves said this was the first time the school had participated in the event.
“[We] decided to participate in wear a beanie for brain cancer as students had seen the [advertisement] on TV and asked if we could do it,” she said.
“Many teachers also showed interest and wanted to support the cause.
“Also the fact that brain cancer kills more children than any other disease and survival rates are low.
“It also receives hardly any government funding to help with research so it makes the cause even more worthwhile.
“The whole school will be participating and they are all encouraged to wear a beanie and bring in a gold coin donation.”
