The new principal has been settling into her recently-appointed position at Muswellbrook Public School.
Mrs Stephens, who recently married, moved to Muswellbrook during the Christmas holidays.
She took up her new position at the start of Term 2, after relieving as principal of Denman Public School for Term 1.
Prior to this she led three other schools in the Penrith and Hawkesbury districts.
Mrs Stephens was delighted to be permanently appointed as principal of Muswellbrook Public School.
"The school is highly-regarded in the Muswellbrook community with the students being the highest priority,” she said.
“The school has high expectations for all pupils and dedicated, committed staff, who strive to achieve.
“I enjoy being part of a larger community and Muswellbrook Public School encourages partnerships with parents and the wider school community.
“It’s a school that respects diversity and offers many extra-curricular programs, where all students can develop their interests and abilities, and experience success."
Over the past two years, Mrs Stephens has successfully engaged in many professional development opportunities including the Art of Leadership program.
She was also awarded the NSW PPA Principal Credential, after undertaking an action research project based on Educational Change in the 21st Century, which further enhanced her knowledge and skills in Change Management.
She is currently undertaking a Masters degree in Educational Leadership.
Mrs Stephens said one of the most challenging aspects has been learning everyone’s names.
This is understandable, considering Muswellbrook Public School has more than 600 students and approximately 60 staff members.
Over the next five years, Mrs Stephens is hoping to take the school to a new level, through the enhancement of 21st century teaching and learning programs, as well as welfare initiatives, that will enhance students’ self-esteem and assist them in achieving their full potential.
She continually strives to bring about continuous school improvement and is keen to build close links with members of the wider school community, including Muswellbrook High School.
"Since arriving in the Muswellbrook area, both the Denman and Muswellbrook school communities have been very supportive and, for that, I'm very grateful,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to establishing positive relationships with many parents and community members, in order to strengthen the home/school partnership.”
Mrs Stephen’s favourite subjects are sport and maths, and in her spare time she loves to play golf and spend time with her family.
