Upper Hunter Shire Council general manager Waid Crockett said the weekend rain had not been enough to raise the Murrurundi Dam level sufficiently and urged all Murrurundi residents to do what they could to save water above and beyond the restrictions.
Level 1 water restrictions are implemented when the Murrurundi Dam falls to the 7.5 metre level and the target is to reduce water consumption by 10 per cent, or 260 litres per person, per day.
Staff will continue to monitor the situation to determine if further changes in water restrictions are required in the future.
