Work for the Dole is an Australian Government funded program enabling job seekers to gain vital skills and work like experiences.
This opportunity allows job seekers to gain experience, build confidence and self esteem, learn new skills, meet new people and network with potential employers. As a host organisation UHCS is providing a positive and rewarding experience in a work environment to assist the job seekers in their endeavours.
This project gives team members an opportunity to discover new areas of interests and strengths to pursue as they seek employment and areas of future study.
The team are carrying out general carpentry, fencing, painting, landscaping, art work, researching and ordering materials, re-building the community garden and enhancing the usability and overall look of the Centre inside and out.
“The project is fun and enjoyable, I am learning new skills every day,” said Hayley, one of the participants.
Rennae Clarke from Australian Work for the Dole Coordinators Services said the work that has been completed was “amazing”.
“The participants are working hard and have achieved some fantastic results,” she said. “This is a great opportunity for them to gain hands on experience which has dramatically improved their chances of gaining employment.”
During the school holidays members from the local community came along to Hunter Park Family Centre to work alongside the team in creating an artwork for the community garden.
The artwork which was hand drawn by a member of the team was creatively painted on the day!
During May local industry and potential employers can spend some time with the team at Hunter Park Family Centre. Broader industry input will assist the team with more work ready skills and allow for information sharing opportunities in employment areas of interest.
UHCS say they have some keen job seekers who are willing to learn. Contact Mel at UHCS on 6542 3555 if you would like to be involved!
