And, in the early stages on Saturday, World 24 Hour Solo Champion Jason English from Port Macquarie was showing his class in the JetBlack 24 Hour race.
Canadian Marathon Mountain Bike Champion Cory Wallace also looked sharp on the Upper Hunter circuit, along with Sam Moffitt.
“I’m very happy with the way things are going,” race director Martin Wisata told the Hunter Valley News.
“We’ve got 230 riders participating.
“Even though you always want more [entrants], it’s the first time Rocky Trail Entertainment has hosted the JetBlack 24 Hour race at James Estate Winery.
“So, we can build on that number.
“The trails at James Estate have become very popular in the mountain biking scene.
“The 10km loop is taking them through the vineyards and an exciting single trail network that has been custom-built in the bushland around the property.
“Plus, we’ve been very lucky with the weather.”
One of the most iconic mountain bike events on the racing calendar, the JetBlack 24 Hour race will finish about noon on Sunday.

8am: Rider registration
11:30am: Rider briefing
12pm: Race start
6pm: 6+6 hour riders finish
Sunday - January 24
6am: 6+6 hour riders re-start
12pm: Race finish
