The Barrington Tops Tasmanian devil breeding facility is around 1350m above sea level and the largest, most successful conservation breeding program for endangered Tasmanian devils.
The animals live in large enclosures where they can display their natural traits.
Staff members are delighted that this year around 30 joeys were born at the facility, raising the population to nearly 200.
By being a part of the team you can meet people interested in conservation while raising awareness of the Tasmanian devil and Devil Ark’s efforts.
Some of the activities Devil Ark Advocates are involved in include working at events in the Hunter and Lower North Coast.
These events include children’s storytelling with puppets; talks at service clubs and other functions; fundraising walks; Feed a Devil a Day with schools; volunteer training, and; administration support.
The team at Devil Ark are looking for people who have a diverse set of skills including good communication skills; activity planning, merchandise sales, training volunteers, general administration duties and working well in a team.
Those who become an advocate will help Devil Ark preserve the iconic Australian mammal.
In some areas of Tasmania around 90 per cent of the wild devil population has been lost from Devil Facial Tumour Disease, and there is no known vaccine or cure for the sickness.
Devil Ark breeds genetically disease free devils to ensure their long term survival.
