On Saturday, October 24, the Upper Hunter Shire will be participating in the fifth annual Garage Sale Trail.
Residents, schools, and community groups are encouraged to participate in the event, which will combine more than 10,000 garage sales across Australia into a national sustainability event.
The purpose of the event is to organise people in communities to have their own garage sales, promoting reuse and the reduction of landfill.
Upper Hunter Shire mayor Wayne Bedggood said it is an opportunity to promote reuse and community building in a fun and creative way.
“The Upper Hunter Shire Council is proud to be actively involved in bringing this national initiative to our residents,” he said.
“Garage Sale Trail helps people to think creatively about how we can reuse items that might otherwise be put out for waste collection and possibly end up in landfill.
“[It] is a fun and social way to get to know your neighbours and connect with the broader community whilst raising money for yourself or others.
“It’s a grassroots event that has swept across the country, so we’re pleased to be a part of something bigger that’s making some positive change.”
