SCONE Race Club officials were excited but young Warwick Farm trainer Gabrielle Englebrecht was left red-faced after her talented three year old Cannyescent appeared in the nominations for the Gundy Hcp (1300m) at Scone on Friday.

Cannyescent is the horse that Englebrecht has big plans for and he was at the centre of a stewards’ inquiry after a luckless fifth in the Up And Coming at Randwick last Saturday, an incident that resulted in James McDonald being suspended for five meetings.
“I am so embarrassed, he wasn’t meant to be in the nominations for Scone,” Englebrecht said.
“I meant to nominate L’academie de Joie and as soon as I realised the mistake I tried to correct it, but unfortunately Cannyescent’s name appeared in the original nominations.
“He is not going to Scone, he is going to the Ming Dynasty at Randwick in two weeks time.”
L’academie de Joie, the winner of 11 races and the flag bearer for the young trainer since she took out her licence, is going to Scone and will be ridden by Thomas Huet.
He resumed from a spell to run eighth at Canterbury on August 12 but the trainer expects a much better run on Friday.
“He raced far too keenly at Canterbury,” Englebrecht said.
“The trip to Scone and the drop back to country grade will do him the world of good.
“The more racing he has the more settled he becomes.”
Englebrecht, who often sends horses to Scone, is a Hunter Valley girl, born and bred but left Muswellbrook at three years of age when her father Steve moved his stable to Warwick Farm.
Clearly Innocent, the horse that Greg Bennett has broken a personal rule over, will run in the Benchmark 55 (1100m) after an impressive debut win at Scone on August 9.
“I try not to get excited about my horses but I am excited about this horse,” Bennett said.
“Admittedly he has had a throat operation and we have to manage that but I think he has a big future.
“I know we are probably going to be on a heavy track but he is by Not A Single Doubt from a Zabeel mare so he is bred to handle it.”
Samantha Clenton did a great job winning on Clearly Innocent and has retained the ride.
