The controversial five-eighth was keen to turn out for Souths against Easts in the Queensland club premiership grand final at Ballymore.

News Corp reports that Cooper raised the idea with his club teammates after Souths made an unexpected rise to the final.

But Souths coach Brett Picone rejected the idea, not wanting to upset the rhythm of his settled backline for such a big occasion, even with the offer of Cooper's rare talents.

Cooper apparently hasn't trained with the team this season and last played for the club in 2012.

Souths are looking for their first title since 2000.

Cooper has had another injury-wracked season that wrecked his Super Rugby campaign but he has found the faith of Wallabies coach Michael Cheika and appeared in both of the Australia's Rugby Championship wins over South Africa and Argentina.

The Wallabies face the All Blacks in Sydney on Saturday week in a match that will determine the Rugby Championship with both teams unbeaten.

The match doubles as the first of two Bledisloe Cup tests with the second clash at Auckland's Eden Park a week later.

The All Blacks hold both the Rugby Championship title and the Bledisloe Cup.
