Picture postcard scenes have been repeated across the region in areas of high elevation.
Some of the largest snow depths away from alpine areas included Orange on the NSW Central Tablelands where between 10 and 15 centimetres has fallen.
In the Barrington Tops National Park the falls were also heavy.
The Tassie Devil Ark team in the Barringtons shared some memorable photos on their Facebook page on Sunday (photos 2 & 3).
Locals who ventured into the winter wonderland weren't disappointed.
Tania Hagan sent us a scene showing just how deep the snow cover is in the Barrington Tops (photo 1). Adrian Hagan captured his sister, Elise, at Thunderbolts Lookout at Barrington Tops on Sunday making her first footprints in the snow.
Muswellbrook's Minch family made a tiny, but impressive, snowman in the cold conditions (photo 4).
The Evans Clan, from Muswellbrook, hopped in their 4WD and made for the Barringtons to play in the snow (photos 6 & 7).
While Sarah Hardy, who lives in Scone, sent us another great snowman snapshot (photo 8) and Ash Lane, from Aberdeen, captured just how cold it was near Tomulla and the Barringtons (photos 9-12).
But the snow didn't just fall in the Barringtons, it also dusted the high elevations near Merriwa around the Liverpool Ranges.
Farmers Maria and David Cameron, from "Springhills" about 45km from Merriwa, awoke to find the hills of their property covered (photo 5).
More snow is expected to redevelop along the Blue Mountains and Northern Tablelands in the coming 24 hours as an upper cold pool slowly edges north.
The Bureau of Meteorology reported a daytime temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius at Murrurundi Gap at 3.53pm on Sunday and 9.3 degrees Celsius at 2.01pm at Merriwa.
Scone Airport reached 10.7 degrees Celsius at 12.02pm.
The forecast for the top of the Upper Hunter on Monday is cloudy with the chance of showers in the morning.
Snow is possible above 800 metres and winds will be westerly, gusting up to 55 km/h.
Scone is expecting a maximum of 12 degrees Celsius on Monday.
