Die-hard NSW supporter Amy Foster and Queensland fan Kody Sutton, both from Muswellbrook, have always been on opposite sides once State of Origin begins.
Amy predicts an 18-10 win for the current champions, NSW, while Kody has backed the Maroons to come away with a tight 10-6 victory.
Both fans started following rugby league’s showpiece event from an early age, but they have polarising views on their reasons for supporting the teams.
“Everyone in my family follows Queensland so I didn’t really have a choice; I was born and bred into it,” Kody says.
“It’s State of Origin, not state of choice,” Amy laughs.
The friends initially picked two battle-hardened forwards as their favourite players from each side.
“I’d go with Paul Gallen but he’s not playing game one so I’ll have to say Trent Hodkinson because he scored our winning try last year,” Amy says.
“Sam Thaiday for me – as a forward myself playing local footy, I respect him because he’s a real workhorse,” Kody replies.
Coverage of game one starts at 7.30pm on NBN.
