About 100 competitors are set to take part in the maiden campdraft event from 10am at the Rosedale Horse Complex.
Running as an individual competition, it precedes the first day of the festival on Friday, which will see approximately 80 horsemen and women competing for more than $40,000 in prizemoney and trophies.
King of the Ranges has previously been handed the NSW Regional and Community Events and Tourism Award.
There will be plenty of entertainment for all of the family throughout the day, while the Camp Oven Dinner and Bush Poetry Night will follow the main event from 6.30pm.
The Scone and Upper Hunter Horse Festival runs until May 17, and also includes the Scone Cup, Charity Rodeo and a massive street parade.
